Have you ever wondered if your memoir or personal essay could become a powerful film? In this interactive session, filmmaker and memoirist Kerra Bolton shares the process of adapting real-life experiences into visual storytelling. Learn how to identify cinematic moments in your story, shape character arcs, and choose between documentary and narrative film formats. Ideal for writers that are ready to expand their storytelling toolkit—or those curious about the intersection of memory, truth, and screenwriting.

From that first spark of interest to a fully signed agreement, the journey between a writer and producer can be thrilling and complex. In this candid and practical session, Writer Laurie Woodard and Producer Danny Lake team up to demystify the stages of collaboration that begin when a script catches a producer’s eye. They’ll break down the difference between shopping and option agreements, address common misconceptions, and explore how to set clear expectations from day one. Whether you're a writer hoping to land a producer or already navigating a deal, this session will give you the tools to build a strong, successful creative partnership, starting at page one.

This interactive workshop, Lauren C. Snowden, Professor of Film Studies at Moorpark College and program lead for the discipline, will take participants on a deep dive into story beats and the 3-act structure. She will also show how to analyze the effective use of narrative devices in the brilliant film, The Shawshank Redemption. While there are no prerequisites for this workshop, it is suggested attendees watch the film (or refresh their memories) beforehand to avoid spoilers, and to fully engage in this lively discussion.
