Whether you are a beginner or have experience, this hands-on class is the perfect opportunity to improve your skills and focus on black and white film photography. Have you ever wanted to try film? What about making your own one-of-a-kind print in a darkroom? We will be covering the basic functionality of your film camera as well as discussing creative control and composition. Once you have photographed your roll(s) of film, you will learn how to develop your negatives and then continue the process by making enlargements in our Cuesta darkroom. This class is a great introduction to all things analog photography and is open to all skill levels. No matter what your experience you will get in the darkroom and create stunning works you will be proud to hang in your home! The class requires a film camera (SLR, rangefinder, medium format and/or any film camera that can operate with a manual mode). If you need a camera, please reach out to the instructor as he may be able to accommodate one OR point in the right direction for purchasing one either locally or online. Get your cameras ready and let’s go take some photos! You will be using your cameras on campus as well as on location during your own time.

Class will be taking 1 field trips, TBD on times and location in SLO County. The trips will be during week 3 or 4. This trip will be discussed as a class to decide the best date and time!

Richard Fusillo

Richard has been a professional photographer for over 15 years on the Central Coast of CA and have been a part of the Cuesta photo department for 7 + years as the lead lab technician as well as an educator in the College 4 Kids program. Teaching art, specifically photography, is a huge passion of mine and I believe everyone should have the opportunity to discover their creative side and find their voice through art.
